Casualty figures for New Forest District Council area
Road casualty rates continue to be a concern. Hampshire County Council have been successful in reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured (KSI) on the County's roads below the annual target of 633 KSIs (killed or seriously injured) agreed with Government . The figures for New Forest District indicate that the small increase in the number of KSIs on roads within the District in 2005 has reduced a little since. Traffic speeds are a concern for many communities.
Since 2005 the Police, District Council, Hampshire County Council and other stakeholders have worked together to address these concerns through a variety of initiatives including speed indicator devices, "20mph is plenty" campaigns outside schools, "village 30" review and more recently the Community Speed watch Project. There is extensive guidance available to developers relating to the design of new developments so as to reduce the risk of accidents to a realistic minimum.
