The Council parking service operates 51 car parks in total. These incorporate 1,438 short stay spaces, 4,671 long stay spaces and 257 disabled spaces.A list of car parks and charges can be viewed here. All New Forest District Council public car parks are governed by the Council's Off Street Parking Order which can be viewed here.
Parking is free for those displaying a valid Blue Disabled Parking Badge. No other concessions apply.
Motorists can pay for their parking by debit/credit card using their mobile phone through the RingGo Phone Services. Follow this link for full information.
The Council's annual parking and enforcement report can be viewed here . This is the Council's third annual parking and enforcement report and the Council have tried to keep it to a length which makes it comparatively easy to read but sets out all matters which it is required to do by law.
In order to assist in the management of Council Car Parks and provide a convenient method of parking for residents and visitors, a parking clock scheme is in use. More information about this scheme.
The Council is responsible for enforcing on street loading and waiting restrictions within the District (interactive map showing restrictions). Previously this was the responsibility of the Police. The change of responsibility has taken place to achieve
- A greater emphasis on enforcement
- The council will be more able to respond to residents concerns
- Offences will no longer be a criminal but a civil offence and dealt with by a streamlined County court system
- The Council can issue Penalty Charge Notices for parking adjacent to a dropped footway. Procedure for enforcement can be viewed here.
The Police will continue to be responsible for all moving offences, and all cases of obstruction.
