All remaining postcodes will be rolled out in September 2018.

Universal Credit, introduced by the Department for Work and Pensions, is designed to support working age people who are on a low income or out of work. It is replacing six existing benefits and is currently being rolled out across the UK.

The new system is based on a single monthly payment, transferred directly into a bank account. The payment will include rent (if liable) and individuals are responsible for making payments to their landlord.

Universal Credit merges income-based Jobseekers Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Income Support and Housing Benefit.

There is further Universal Credit information on NFDC's website at UC Information and from UC and Understanding Universal Credit
